Albanese Set for Singapore Visit to Discuss Energy Supplies
In a statement, Albanese said he will be in Singapore from Thursday through Saturday to meet with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and advance talks on securing trade in “essential supplies,” including petroleum oils.
“Singapore is Australia’s largest supplier of refined petroleum products, and Australia is Singapore’s second-largest supplier of liquefied natural gas,” Albanese noted.
Speaking to reporters in Canberra, he emphasized that Australia’s fuel supply remains stable despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East, but added that the government is working to enhance the system’s resilience.
“The visit follows Australia and Singapore’s joint commitment to keep fuel flowing between both countries and to work together to strengthen energy supply chain resilience,” he said.
Albanese also reported improvement in domestic fuel availability. “Fewer fuel stations across Australia were experiencing supply shortages on Tuesday than prior to the Easter holiday period,” he said, expressing gratitude to Australians for conserving fuel.
